Fourth of July Fun: Homemade Red, White, and Blue Dog Treats for a Cool Summer Snack

Planning to celebrate the Fourth and don’t want to leave your dog out of the fun? These homemade, patriotic dog treats are the answer! Not only do they look super festive with all the red, white, and blue, but they’ll also help keep your pup cool and happy in that summer heat. Let’s dive in!

Why Make Homemade Dog Treats?

Honestly, making treats at home is a win-win. You get to control what goes in (and what stays out) of your dog’s diet, which is especially handy if your pup has allergies or a sensitive tummy. These treats are made with simple, safe ingredients that are easy on digestion, plus they taste pretty darn good (or so we assume—your dog will be the judge!). It’s the perfect way to treat your dog to something special on a holiday.

Red, White, and Blue Dog Treats Recipe

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  1. Silicone dog treat mold – Star shapes are a fun way to go patriotic!

  2. Blueberries – Great for antioxidants and a splash of blue.

  3. Strawberries – These add fiber, vitamin C, and the red color we need!

  4. Plain Greek yogurt – A protein-packed base for the treats. Just double-check it’s unsweetened and doesn’t contain xylitol.

Let’s Make These Treats!

  1. Prep the Fruit

Dice up the strawberries and blueberries into little bits so they fit nicely in the molds. This way, you’ll get that nice red and blue color in every treat.

  2. Fill the Mold

Toss a few pieces of diced strawberries and blueberries into each section of the silicone mold. Try to spread them out evenly, so the treats look just as festive as you’d hope!

  3. Add the Yogurt

Pour the Greek yogurt over the fruit bits, filling in all the gaps. Use a spatula to smooth out the top, so everything is nice and level.

  4. Freeze ‘Em Up!

Pop the mold into the freezer for at least 3 hours or until the treats are solid. Once frozen, they should slide out pretty easily—perfect for quick summer snacks.

  5. Serve

Treat time! Pop one out and let your dog enjoy. These frozen treats will cool them down and add a fun splash of Fourth of July flair.

Pro Tips for Making Healthy Dog Treats

  • Go Organic if You Can: Organic blueberries and strawberries are ideal since they’re free from pesticides.

  • Watch for Allergies: If this is your dog’s first time with these ingredients, introduce them slowly to make sure they’re allergy-free.

  • Everything in Moderation: These are a treat after all, so serve them as an occasional summer snack.
